Distemper of Dogs

چکیده
CANINE DISTEMPER is an acute, highly contagioui?, febrile disease caused by a filtrable virus and affecting principally young dogs. The disease is characterized by a catarrhal inflammation of all the mucous membranes of the body, which is frequently accompanied by nervous symptoms and pustular eruptions of the skin. It has its human counterpart in the form of influenza, which, though not identical with distemper, is very similar in many respects. This insidious disease, which has been referred to by some writers as the "scourge of dogdom," is one of the most common and fatal diseases affecting dogs and has probably been the subject of more discussion and investigation than any other canine malady. It will be readily appreciated from the foregoing that distemper is a very serious and complicated disease, requiring expert attention ; hence, when a dog is suspected of having it, a veterinarian should be consulted immediately. However, persons who have some knowledge of the general characteristics and methods of prevention and control of the disease are in a position to reduce to a minimum the danger that their dogs will acquire it and to safeguard affected dogs, at least to soine extent, from its ravages and after effects. The purpose of this discussion is to furnisli such information rather than to outline a thorough course of treatment for distemper. Distemper is known in all countries where there are dogs and occurs in all parts of the United States at all seasons of the year, but it appears to be more prevalent during the winter and the cold damp weather of early spring and late autumn. While young dogs of all breeds are susceptible, it appears to be more common in highly bred animals than in mongrels. Nitrosative stress indices in dogs with neurological form of canine distemper
This is a prospective, controlled, randomized clinical study to evidence the role of nitrosative stress in development of overt neurological sign of canine distemper (CD). The enrollment of cases wasa made on basis of overt sign of CD (n=139) and the findings were compared with apparently healthy dogs (n=15). The CD specific immunoglobulins resulted in 94 confirmed positive cases. The nitric ox...
متن کاملMolecular and Immunological Investigation of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) and Its Co- Infection with Canine Parainfluenza Virus Type 2
Background and Objective: Canine distemper (CD) is a highly transmissible serious disease of carnivores. Distemper virus has immunosuppression effects, which, in turn, could lead to opportunistic infections. The present study was performed to detect CDV by the genomic and immunological methods and investigate its co- infection with canine parainfluenza virus type 2 (CPiV-2). Materials and Meth...

BACKGROUND: Canine Distemper (CD) is a lethal systemicdisease affecting a wide variety of terrestrial carnivores.OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to survey epidemiologicaland molecular characteristics of the canine distemper virus(CDV) strains circulating in Iran. METHODS: In this study, 19CDV-suspected unvaccinated dogs from Northeast and center ofIran were analyzed for presence of CDV nuc...
متن کاملMolecular and Serological Detection of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) in Rural Dogs, Iran
Background and Aims: Canine distemper (CD) is a deadly infectious disease of Canidae family. CD is a multi-systemic viral disease and is specified by wide range of clinical symptoms. The manifestations are not always indicative of CD, therefore a laboratory confirmation is necessary for suspected cases. Materials and Methods: Different clinical specimens of 19 CD suspected unvaccinated dogs wer...
متن کاملA CASE REPORT OF HUMAN DISTEMPER VIRUS AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH STUDY ABOUT IT
Distemper virus is a Morbillivirus (in the family Paramyxoviridae) that can cause contagious disease in dogs. The virus affects the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems after transmission. In this study, we reported a case of human infection and involvement with the Distemper virus. A 31-year-old man was diagnosed with clinical signs of Distemper in dogs. After serologic tests on saliva...
